Answers
What is Stud.IP?
Stud.IP is a learning and communication platform that can be used by all university lecturers, students and employees of Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg (MLU). You can access this platform on the internet at any time via the web address https://studip.uni-halle.de.
How do I get my login data?
You can log in to Stud.IP using the user ID and password you received with your enrolment documents. You can find out how to reset your password here.
How do I get a Stud.IP account as an employee?
If you have submitted an application to use central resources, the account will be created automatically if you have also applied for a Stud.IP account. If you have been employed at MLU for some time and now need an account for the first time, please describe your request in an email to admin@studip.uni-halle.de. Please also include the following information in this email to enable us to process your request more quickly:
- Surname, first name
- Academic degree, if applicable
- University structural unit at which you are employed (faculty, institute, chair)
- Employee e-mail address (must be in the form firstname.surname@struktureinheit.uni-halle.de)
How can I become a guest/visiting student at MLU?
You can enrol as a visiting student at the University of Halle. As a visiting student, you can take courses up to a maximum of 10 semester hours per week per semester. The fee is 50.00 euros per semester. You can find the relevant registration form on the following page: https://wisswei.verwaltung.uni-halle.de/weiterbildung/angebote/gasthoererschaft/
Department 1.3 will then apply for your Stud.IP account with us and we will send you your access data by e-mail. If you are studying at a partner university of MLU, please contact Ms. Fähling to obtain a login for MLU’s Stud.IP: (jana.faehling@verwaltung.uni-halle.de). After proper registration, you will receive your access data by e-mail.
Please note the deadlines for registration.
How do I get a Stud.IP account as a visiting student?
Please apply for guest student status first. You can find detailed information on the following page: https://wisswei.verwaltung.uni-halle.de/weiterbildung/angebote/gasthoererschaft/
The Enrolment Office will forward your data to us. You will then receive your access data from us by e-mail. If there are any problems with your access, please contact admin@studip.uni-halle.de.
I forgot my password. How do I change my Stud.IP password and my StudMail password?
The ITZ offers you the option of changing your Stud.IP password yourself in the service portal. To do this, enter your student e-mail address on the page https://serviceportal.itz.uni-halle.de/. You will then receive a time-limited access to the service portal by e-mail, which will allow you to create a new Stud.IP password. Please note that changing your Stud.IP password in the service portal will also change the password for other services.
If you need new login data for StudMail, please contact helpdesk@itz.uni-halle.de. Here you will receive new access data for your student e-mail account, stating your date of birth and including a copy of your student ID card. If you have any further questions or problems, please send an e-mail to admin@studip.uni-halle.de.
How can I place an advertisement in Stud.IP?
You have the possibility to place a banner ad in Stud.IP for advertising purposes. Send a request with the following information to admin@studip.uni-halle.de:
- a graphic in png, jpg or gif
- dimensions: 270x85px to 270x270px
- a link to the page that should open when users click on the banner
- the period during which the banner is to be played
We point out that the banner ad must have a university reference, is not allowed to have any discriminatory content and the advertised context is not allowed to be discriminatory either.
How can I place an announcement in Stud.IP?
To have an announcement placed, send an e-mail with the desired title, text, expiration date and references to admin@studip.uni-halle.de.
Announcements must be aimed at students and may not contain commercial advertising or discrimination in any form.
No announcements will be made for job offers; please publish these on the notice board.
I can’t log in, even though I have the correct password. What should I do?
If you have trouble logging in, this may be caused by stored cookies or your cookie settings. Please delete the cookies in your browser and try to log in again. Please note that functional cookies must be allowed.
You can find instructions on how to delete cookies on the following page: https://www.verbraucherzentrale.de/wissen/digitale-welt/datenschutz/cookies-kontrollieren-und-verwalten-11996#7
If this is not enough, updating or changing the browser may also solve the problem. It is also possible that the account has been temporarily blocked for about 15 minutes, if the password has been typed in incorrectly too often; during this period it is not possible to log in, even with the correct password. If you still receive an error message, please forward it to admin@studip.uni-halle.de.
How can I change the current semester of my course? How can I make my course run over several semesters?
Unfortunately, the function for changing the semester or the duration length for a course is not available for the lecturer role and the admin role. If you need to make any changes here, please send an email to admin@studip.uni-halle.de so that we can adjust this for you.
How do I link Stud.IP with ILIAS?
To use the ILIAS learning platform, you need to activate your ILIAS account once via Stud.IP. You can find out how best to do this on this wiki page:
https://wiki.llz.uni-halle.de/Verbindung_von_ILIAS_und_Stud.IP
If you have any problems or questions about ILIAS, please contact support@elearning.uni-halle.de.
How can I make changes in my profile?
To make changes in your profile, select the menu item “Profile” under the arrow next to your profile picture and then “Personal details”. Under “Student data” you can select your details, such as institution, which should be listed on your profile.
How can I be assigned to an institution?
You will usually be assigned to your institution by default. If there is a problem with this or if you need assignments for other institutions, we will be happy to assign them to you. Please contact us by e-mail at admin@studip.uni-halle.de.
How can I give a student in my course tutor rights?
Students can be named as tutors in the administration of a course in the menu item “Basic details” under “Staff”. By registering the tutor role in the basic data, the role is automatically changed from autor to tutor. Alternatively, you can find the same function by selecting “Enter tutor” under the menu item Participants.
What is the lecturer status and how does it differ from the admin status? What do I need to obtain the admin status?
The lecturer status (or role) allows you to access your courses, make changes and add new content. You can also create new courses in your institution.
With the admin status (role) of a selected institution, you can change the institution data as well as manage the employees and courses of the corresponding institution. However, you cannot be entered as a lecturer within a course with the admin role.
For an admin account, we require a brief confirmation (by e-mail) from your supervisor that we may grant you administration rights for the institution.
Why can’t I add a user as a teacher in my course?
If you try to add another lecturer to a course under “Enter participants and lecturers” but cannot find them by entering the five-digit user ID or their name, there may be various reasons for this.
The person has the Autor, Tutor or Admin role: Only employees with the Lecturer role can be added as lecturers in a course. You can find out more about the different user roles here: What is the lecturer role and how does it differ from the admin role? What do I need to obtain an admin role? and How do I upgrade a student to the tutor role in my course?
The person is assigned to a different institution: You can find more information on the assignment of lecturers to institutions here: How do I change my profile? and How do I get an assignment to an institution?
The person does not yet have a Stud.IP account: Further information on setting up employee accounts can be found here: Setting up an account for employees or guest students.
How do I add my old Stud.IP account to my new account?
If you would like to include your old account in a new Stud.IP account, please let us know the old and new user ID to which your old data should be transferred. The data to be transferred includes courses, degree programs, personal profile data including user picture, institutes, generic data fields and buddies. We will of course have you check again that everything is correct after the transfer before we delete your old account.
How can a company place job offers for students on the site?
Please contact the Career Center at info@career.uni-halle.de and find out more on the following page: https://www.careercenter.uni-halle.de/.
